Never Buy Another Diet

Sounds logical, right?

Found out a way to lose weight, follow what it says, and hey presto, all’s well in the world and you don’t buy any more diet books.

So why is the diet industry so huge, such a massive cash machine, and are you feeding it..?

The simple answer is laziness.

Humans, given half a chance, will always take the easier lazier option.
The days wen we had to run and hunt to survive, build our own houses, fight for what we wanted have long gone, and now it can be pretty much all done from the comfort of our home, preferably with a drink and a snack to hand!

End result? Not enough exercise, too many calories, leading to extra weight.

The solution is not hard to figure out, everyone knows it – you simply reverse the causes.
This means more exercise, less calories, leading to weight loss.

This is where the laziness throws a spanner in the works.

I’d like to say that although the intention is there to eat better and do exercise, we never get around to it, but in fact the intention isn’t even there nowadays!

So, all the marketers have to do is put a diet book together which has certain things on the cover appealing to that laziness, and they can sit back and count the money!
If you state on the cover that you can lose 11 pounds in a week, maybe that you can eat all you want, you’ll do well.
How about a doctor in a white coat, or better still an attractive young woman?
You could always say that it’s ‘scientifically tested’, or a bestseller.

Of course if put *all* of those on the cover, then wow, how can people resist?
The answer is that they can’t – the thought of losing weight by not doing anything different to what they currently do is too much to resist, and the wallet opens.

Despite knowing deep down that the same actions will bring the same results, they read the book, and then find it doesn’t work, if they actually start it at all, because a lot of people think that buying the book itself will be enough to lose weight!

So they give up, and never buy another diet book again, right?

Wrong.

A trusted rule of business is that a buying customer is much easier to make a repeat customer than gain a new one, so out comes the next diet book, and the same people that bought the last one buy this one too!

And so on, and so on.

The businessmen aren’t to blame, although there must be integrity doubts when you look at some of the contents – no, it’s laziness which drives this, and will continue to do so.

You can say ‘never buy another diet book again’, but it’s probably a waste of breath.
