The Myth of Weakness in Fitness

I’m just going to come right out and say it, I don’t believe in weakness.

By weakness I refer to the notion that someone may be weak or if they are weak in one area over another. I hate the term. It keeps thoughts in the gym negative and can set hard working folks like yourself back years.

You can see it on the faces of many who strive to be strong. They believe they are weak. They believe they are not strong. They believe they are poor in the riches of fitness and might.

Have you ever seen someone like this get in great shape?

Me neither.

I don’t believe in weakness, I only believe in strength. Everything you do, even standing in place and breathing takes strength to some measure. What many mistakenly call “weakness” is just a different degree of strength. The only thing is focusing on weakness means to focus on a lack of strength and that, my friend, never sends you in the direction you want to go.

Even if it takes everything you have just to climb a flight of stairs and raise your arms above your head it’s best to recognise your own strength in the ability to do so. Feel the strength, savor it like a fine wine. Taste it, enjoy it and let it flood your senses as the power courses through your body.

Ultimately improving fitness is not about focusing on what you don’t have, but through growing and cultivating what you do have. Like a plant growing in the soil it will only grow when cared for, not admonished and abused.

By focusing on “weakness” you’re literally abusing your own personal strength levels and how on earth can you possibly improve and grow under such a circumstance?

Even if your strength is relatively small, nurture it so it can grow. As long as your heart beats and your mind thinks you have strength, and I’m sure it’s more than most people.

Let it grow and enjoy the harvest of your labors.
