Over-Stressed – I Just Can’t Do It!

One thing we all know is true – life happens. We don’t have control over a lot of situations but we do have control over how we handle them.

With a recent move behind me, I can understand a hectic schedule! There is so much to do! Buy this, call them, set that up, etc. By the time you finish all of that for the week – who has time to exercise! And never mind eating right! It’s more like whatever you can grab while you’re running from one place to the other!

Whether it’s moving, work, kids, school… we all encounter situations on a regular basis that cause stress and thus, lack of exercise and healthful eating. So what’s the best way to maintain BALANCE?

1) Be realistic. If you manipulate your schedule, what can you REALLY manage? Figure out what you can do and commit to meeting your minimum expectations.

2) Don’t stress yourself out more than necessary. Those of us that set high expectations for ourselves are most vulnerable to this. If you can’t make it to the gym according to your regular schedule – it’s okay!!! As long as it doesn’t become a habit, have confidence that you will get back into it and refer to #1.

3) Listen to your body. Are you starting to feel aches and pains you didn’t normally have? Do your workouts feel more difficult than normal? Are you feeling lethargic all the time? Your CNS (central nervous system) is telling you it’s time to slow down. Consider taking a week off from the gym. Also consider making time to do something that relaxes you. Perhaps that’s a yoga session, a hot bath, or sitting quietly with a cup of tea before you go to sleep.
