Online Personal Training – Is It Right For You?

There are just so many things you can get done on the Internet today. I read a story a few months ago about a family who spend a certain amount of time only purchasing what they needed from the Internet (including groceries). I must say, I have ordered groceries from the Internet and I still like going into the store.

I still like to go into the store and touch the products, read the labels, compare prices, and take my time. When shopping for clothes, well, I just need to try them on because you just never know. But if I have to go to the bank, I won’t like it. I would rather transfer money online or make deposits at the ATM.

Most of us are like that. There are some things we are willing to do online and some tasks we just prefer to do in person.

Is personal training one of those areas for you? Are you a person who has to have someone there right with you telling you what to do? Or do you simply require instructions with demonstrations and then you can go about the program on your own?

For some of you, the issue might come down to cost. It is certainly less expensive to download a trainer’s online program than to have them see you face to face. But, even more than that, there may be a particular trainer you want, but due to distance, price, or whatever, you cannot train with them in person.

In cases like that, online personal training and phone coaching would be great for you.

Online personal training and phone coaching can work extremely well when you travel for vacation or business and want/need to stay in touch with your trainer. It is extremely convenient for you, as the client, to be able to download programs to your iPod, MP3 player, or computer. From there, all you have to do is plug it in and go.

While this is incredibly convenient, it is not for everyone.

To know if this is right for you, ask yourself these 3 questions:

1. Can I follow a workout without supervision?

2. Am I willing to give up face to face contact with a personal trainer?

3. Am I willing to phone my trainer for coaching on a regular basis?

If you can answer “yes” to even 2 of those questions, then go ahead and jump in the pool of online training and phone coaching.
