Are You Suffering From Personal Trainer Burn Out? – Here’s How to Light the Fire Again!

Some personal trainers have maxed out their day with training clients from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. As a Personal Fitness Trainer, when you are working 10-12 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, it’s easy to become burned out and frustrated.

You lose your excitement for fitness training and you begin to just go through the “motions” with your clients. You become trapped in your job as you have no room for anything else in your life. You find you spend most of your time in the gym or your training studio.

I have seen some personal trainers that used to train their own bodies religiously stop working-out because they were too tired after training clients. This too can lead to frustration, when you can not keep up your own fitness program.

Personal Trainer Burn out is very common among trainers that are taking on more clients than they should in a given day. How many clients can you see per day, 10, 15, 20? How many days per week can you do this before you burn out? The problem is, some of the time, no one wants to turn down a client.

One of the easiest ways to get your life back is to change how you run your business. You want to work smarter not harder.

If not having enough time to do more of the things you love outside of the gym is causing the burn out, look at ways to have more time for yourself such as:

  • Doing Group Trainings – Train small groups of 5, for example. Instead of taking 5 hours to train 5 clients. Train all 5 in an 1 hour session
  • Hire Help – Have others train for you while you focus on marketing

By doing group training you leverage your time while making more money. There are some personal trainers that only train groups. They are working 3 days per week and putting in 9 hours weekly. Not only do they have more free time, but they are making a 6 figure income doing it. That’s the beauty of group training.

Hiring help is another option if you are good at marketing and bringing in clients. Some trainers use this option with much success. Having trainers working for you allows “you” to train more clients in day than you could alone. Also, when you are on vacation, your clients are still being serviced.

Personal trainer burn out can usually be resolved simply by pin pointing what is causing it and making the changes necessary to alleviate the problem. The worse thing you can do is ignore it.

As a personal trainer you have others that depend on you, so you need to be focused and ready to deliver good quality service. If you are suffering from personal trainer burnout and not addressing the problem that could trickle into your business and your clients may suffer too!

Sometimes personal trainers need a little coaching to get back on track and get back in the game.
