Despite of many medical recommendations, there are few good health reasons to use fat foods in moderate quantities. According to the newest approaches, about 25-35% fats from the total food amount are in a way beneficial to the body, while higher or lower fat intake can cause problems.

Fats we eat can be labeled into two important groups, essential and nonessential. The Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) are responsible for many body functions such as producing energy, controlling cell membrane fluids, water retention reducing, diffusion of oxygen into blood, stabilization of blood sugar and insulin levels and many other.

As you can see, EFA are essential important to keep our body in a good function. Among many extreme important EFA we can mention omega-3 and omega-6.

Omega-6 fats have a very important role in our healthy mechanism. On one hand they are involved in the above functions. On the other hand, they increase prostate cancer cells development and their migration into bone marrow. Recent researches concluded that omega-3 fats block this carcinogen effect.

Because the body cannot synthesize essential fats, it must get them via ones diet. Vegetable oils, seeds and nuts are natural omega-6 suppliers while omega-3 are present in oily fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines. Because of omega-6 and omega-3 have opposite effects, a right balance of these two types of fat is very important. Researchers found that in order to stop prostate cancer process, a healthy balance means a double amount of omega-3 in comparison with omega-6.
