There are a lot of people that gets addicted to exercising. When people get addicted to it, they feel obliged to complete the number of days and hours a week they need to use in order to exercise. A person that feels compelled to exercise no matter the situation has a compulsive exercise. Missing out on one routine can already present them with a day’s worth of guilt.
People who over exercise have an almost uncontrolled desire to burn calories off of their body and workout continuously until his/her body is perfect. People who are in danger of having this disorder are actors, actresses, models, dancers, athletes and perfectionists. Over exercising is a common characteristic of dysmorphia or distorted body image.
People who over exercise show signs and symptoms like extreme guilt over a skipped session or routine, being unable to quit the exercise, ignoring the signs of muscle or bone damage during workouts, consistent body injury that results to minimum rest and concern of the family members.
To treat a person that has over exercising disorder, he needs to admit it first. A person that exercises gives him/her the feeling of power and control; both hard to overcome.
Personally experiencing the over exercise disorder, my body gave out on me. I was out of action for three weeks due to an illness called shingles that broke out when my immune system became weak. It was never a pleasant experience because of what I did to my body. Today, I work out four times every weekday. Saturday, Wednesday and Sunday are my rest days. Working out is all about balancing everything. Not just the weights, but your life.
