I may only be 32, but I choose to go walking instead of jogging as I have to take my wife’s health into account. Not only is walking a common activity that we both can share in terms of health, but it is also a good time for us to bond over fresh air.
One of the advantages of walking is that as opposed to running, walking has a minimal impact on the joints and minimal strain of your heart. If you are a senior, this activity can help you keep mobile. Although please do consult your doctor on this prior to going for your walk.
You can choose a nice scenic route near your home that you can walk to to begin your walk. Do choose a route that goes in a general circle. This cuts the temptation to take a shortcut since there isn’t one. All you guys who have nice scenic lakes with good greenery and fresh mountain air have it good.
Since most of us are working, the walks would have to be morning or evening. Personally, I feel this is up to the individual to decide whether you want to take a morning walk or evening. There are those who believe getting your body so active just before you go to bed runs counter. Others, like me, can’t move their butts just after waking up. Or just enough to get ready to go to the office.
Even though you are just walking, do consider to put on a pair of good walking shoes that provide basic comfort for your feet. This also puts your mind and body ready for a exercise walk rather than a casual stroll that you can cut at anytime.
Then take a brisk walk. It feels better when you give your body a little strain. That is why your shoes is important. You don’t have to walk like some kind of Olympic walker, but just walk faster than you would be used to.
