We live in a do-it-yourself society with endless media to “teach” us everything from tuning up a car to making our own sushi. There is definitely a tendency for us to want to take over where professionals once reigned. Many of us believe that we can save time and money, while asserting more control over our lives, if we paint everything with a DIY brush. In some cases, this is absolutely to our benefit. In others, though, we may be cheating ourselves of the experience and education of certified professionals.
Certainly most of us would not endeavor to be our own surgeons or dentists. Without training and experience, we would probably also avoid installing brakes on a car or repairing a sewer line. When it comes to something as important as nutrition and fitness, though, many of us think we can manage it ourselves. While the results of being our own trainers may not be as disastrous as being our own doctors, we are probably putting ourselves at risk of ineffective and inappropriate regimens when we forego the help of a certified fitness professional.
Even before I became a personal trainer, I believed it was important to have one. This wasn’t because I needed someone to make me do more push ups (although trainers can do that), but because I wanted someone whose job it was to know everything about health and fitness and to help me become everything that I wanted to be.
Unlike a gym membership, a personal trainer is a lot like a customized health club. A quality trainer works with you on multiple levels to help you reach and exceed your fitness goals.
Some of the best reasons to hire a personal trainer include:
·Trainers are Trained- Be sure to verify a trainer’s credentials before hiring him/her, but know that most of us are educated and certified in the field of personal fitness training. This means that we know a great deal about the disciplines of nutrition, anatomy and more. It is our profession to know how to make you fit and healthy.
·Training the Whole Person- Fitness isn’t only about working out. I work with my customized Las Vegas health club clients to improve mind, body and spirit. Often times, we have physical goals or obstacles that stem from emotional issues or vice versa. An effective trainer gets to know their clients and helps guide them toward being a healthier person inside and out.
·A Wealth of Workouts- You may grow tired or bored of the exercises you know. Or you may not know how to achieve optimal results for specific parts of your body. That’s where a personal trainer comes in. We know hundreds upon hundreds of movements to give workouts variety and efficacy.
·More Motivation- Let’s face it, we aren’t always good at choosing what’s best for us. Trainers keep us going even when we want to give up. They also keep us accountable to someone for our health-related choices.
·Everything You Don’t Know- Chances are you haven’t spent thousands of hours reading health and fitness articles, attending classes or browsing the internet for new core workouts. That’s what trainers do because it’s their job to know the latest and greatest fitness information.
·Reaching New Levels- I regularly encounter people who have tried to lose weight by running daily or have gone to the gym for months on end without reaching their goals. Within a short time of joining a customized health club or personalized training program, these people see incredible results. For folks who aren’t working out at all, the benefit of a trainer is well beyond anything they could imagine. Personal trainers help clients reach new fitness levels in the most effective way possible.
·Someone Who Cares- Friends aren’t always our best advocates when it comes to fitness, often because our efforts may shine light on a sensitive area of their lives. In addition, not a lot of people at work will probably care that you held a one-leg plank for 40 seconds for the first time ever, but your personal trainer definitely will. If you haven’t enjoyed the benefits of having a personal cheerleader, it’s definitely time to get a trainer.
Health and fitness are important to a high quality of life. Personal trainers are the professionals and advocates who help people of all ages, shapes and sizes become healthier and better in all aspects of their lives. Consider hiring a trainer as your partner in healthy living. Never once has anyone who’s started and stuck with a fitness regimen regretted the benefits.
